How Often Should A Pool Liner Be Replaced?
Vinyl pool liners will typically last between 10-15 years, however, there are variables that may shorten their use.
Factors such as sun exposure, water chemistry, ground water problems, and frequency of use can impact a liner’s lifespan.
How To Know It's Time To Replace Your Liner?
Once liners develop wrinkles, tears, stains, or significant fading, there is a good chance that it needs to be replaced. UV radiation from the sun eventually causes old liners to become brittle, rip, and leak water.
Many tears will be near the water’s surface and easy to spot. However, a test for leaks in the liner below the surface can be accomplished with a bucket. Simply place the bucket on the pool steps and fill with water equal to the same level of water in the pool. If the water is still level with the pool after a few days, then the water loss is evaporation. If it’s not, there is a leak, and we need to inspect it.
How To Extend Your Liner's Longevity?
- Proper water balance will keep the water soft as the liner ages and slows down it’s natural deterioration.
- Patching small leaks immediately will protect the structure of the pool.
- Installing a pool cover will protect the liner from the sun’s UV damage during the cold winter months.
